FLYING RUMORS: The Media, after standing on tiptoe and looking over shoulders all day, is now getting really antsy over Paris impending release. A rumor early this afternoon started when somebody noticed that a lot the paparazzi were suddenly gone from the Lynnwood jail. Then a mysterious helicopter flew out. Then her lawyer was spotted leaving. Pretty soon the internet was crackling. But as of about 4:00 nothing concrete had happened. The spokesperson said, emphatically but nervously, “no” when we asked if she had checked out.
WHAT’S NEXT FOR PARIS?: I would guess (in no particular order) it would be: get out of that tacky Orange Jumpsuit, get in front of Some Cameras. The flashes ought to restore her color pretty fast, after 23 days Behind Bars. Rumors.
THE INTERVIEW: She and her handlers will have a full day to get her ready for Wednesday’s full interview on CNN’s “Larry King Live” It’s really a good for viewers that she ended up there and not on the Today Show or with Barbara Walters (who said today that scuttling for a paid interview with Paris was “beneath” her) because now we’ll see, more or less, the real Paris. She will have to answer questions for an hour. And despite the intense media interest on her all the time, this is someone who seldom says anything more than a few sound bites. If she’s going to use this experience to re-invent herself, as most people think, the reinvention will have to start Wednesday night. And the only way that’s going to work is for Paris to be able to express herself and not simply to preen and stay out all night without a valid driver’s license.
JOB OFFER: Paris officially has one job offer come her way already. The people at the Learning Annex in New York confirmed to Access Hollywood today that they’ve made a “million dollar offer” for her to conduct a series of lectures on product (in her case, name) branding. That puts her in the league with Donald Trump, who also talks for the Learning Annex on how to maximize one’s earning power. Presumably most people in the paid audience won’t be starting out with a pile of green handed down from the family fortune.
A PREDICTION: We suspect that the Major Media will drop the Paris story pretty much as soon as she’s back home tomorrow. There is more than a little grumbling going on around newsrooms about having to chase this story then having to devote resources, air time and column inches to it. A reminder to those who are convinced that The Media is an entity with a liberal agenda. The Media is an animal with herd instincts that are a lot stronger than political ideology.
BRITNEY VS LYNNE:What’s going on with Britney and her mom? Check out the cryptic note at the bottom of her website obviously aimed at her mom. And all day the downtown courthouse has been alive with a rumor that Brit was about to ask for a Temporary Restraining Order to keep Lynne away from Brit’s boys. Word is she’s still angry at being forced into rehab.
