Tammy Faye Messner Dead At 65

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 21, 2007) — Tammy Fay Messner, the former televangelist and Christian singer, died Friday, according to CNN’s Larry King.

She died from inoperable lung cancer. She was 65.

Earlier this week, a fraile yet resilient Tammy Faye appeared on “Larry King Live.” And despite her dire prognosis, knowing full well what lied ahead, she maintained a positive outlook.

“So many people watching and listening care about you so much. What would you like to say to them?” Larry asked her.

“I’d like to say that I genuinely love you and I genuinely care and I genuinely want to see you in heaven one day,” she said. “I want you to find peace. I want you to find joy.”

During her battle with the cancer that ravaged her body, it was her faith that kept Tammy Faye strong.

“I don’t have any date written on me anywhere that says I’m going to die at any certain time,” she said during an interview which aired on Wednesday.

“And you firmly believe that you’re going to heaven?” Larry asked.

“I know, for sure, for positive,” she said with an inspiring confidence.

Through it all, Tammy’s sense of humor stayed as healthy as ever, as Larry found out.

“If you could have people remember you for one thing, what would it be?” Larry asked her.

“My eyelashes,” she laughed.

Certainly, Tammy Faye will be remembered for much more than that.
