Taylor Swift Cried, ‘Ate A Lot’ After Embarrassing Grammy Loss

Ever been so disappointed that you’ve gone home and cried into your comfort cheeseburger? You’re so not alone.

Taylor Swift did the same thing after a mix-up at the 2014 Grammys where she thought she had been announced as a winner, but wasn’t.

The burger feast-inducing moment happened after Taylor’s “Red” album was beat out by Daft Punk’s “Random Access Memories” for Album of the Year in January 2014.

“I remember not going to after parties,” the “Wildest Dreams” singer told Grammy Pro. “I went home and I cried a little bit and I got In-N-Out burger and ate a lot.” (Preach, Tay.)

Taylor explained why she initially thought “Red” had won as presenter Alicia Keys spoke the first syllable of the winner’s album (and cameras caught the unfortunate moment, which quickly went viral).

“When they announced the Album of the Year winner, it was like, ‘And the Album of the Year goes to Raaaandom Access Memories,'” Taylor recalled. “And they really dragged out the ‘Raaa.’ And I was like, for a second there, I kind of thought we had it. And we didn’t.”

Taylor said the humiliating experience inspired her to push even harder to make “1989.”

“You have a few options when you don’t win an award: You can decide like, ‘Oh, they’re wrong, they all voted wrong.’ Second, you can be like, ‘I’m gonna go up on the stage and take the mic from whoever did win it,'” she joked, referencing Kanye West’s infamous 2009 mic-stealing moment at the MTV Video Music Awards. “Or third, you can say, ‘Maybe they’re right — maybe I did not make the record of my career.’ Maybe I need to fix the problem, which was that I have not been making sonically cohesive albums.

“I need to really think about whether I’m listening to a scared record label and what that’s doing to the art I’m making,” she added.
