At just 20 years old, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift had the top-selling album of 2009, and became the female artist with the most Top 40 singles this decade. Now, the star — whose highly anticipated new album, “Speak Now,” hits stores on October 25 — is opening up about her ex (“Twilight” star Taylor Lautner) and the lessons she’s learned about love.
“I’ve learned that you can’t predict [love] or plan for it,” Taylor told Glamour magazine, in an interview for their November issue. “For someone like me who is obsessed with organization and planning, I love the idea that love is the one exception to that. Love is the one wild card.”
Taylor, who was briefly romantically linked to her “Valentine’s Day” co-star, Taylor Lautner, said she has remained close with the ‘Twilight” hunk despite their breakup.
“[Taylor’s] one of my best friends,” she said. “He’s wonderful, and we’ll always be close. I’m so thankful for that.”
A lot has changed for the four-time Grammy winner since she first exploded onto the music scene in 2006 – including her priorities when it comes to looking for qualities in a potential boyfriend.
“In high school, I used to think it was like sooooo cool if a guy had an awesome car,” she told the mag. “Now none of that matters. These days I look for character and honesty and trust.”
The “Fearless” singer (who notoriously pens songs based on her real-life relationships) said she does not regret socking it to her exes via verse.
“Eventually I’m sure one of [my exes] will write a response – that’s a pretty scary concept, actually,” Taylor said. “But I make sure I only write bad songs about the ones who deserve it.”
Catch the full interview with Taylor when the November issue of Glamour hits news stands on October 12.
