Teri Garr Honored For Living With MS

Teri Garr and Geri Jewell have a lot in common besides the fact that each has had physical challenges to overcome.

They both have a sense of humor about their condition.

Jewell makes fun of her cerebral palsy in her standup act and Garr wanted to call her book about MS “Does This Wheelchair Make Me Look Fat?”

Garr says she decided to go public with her MS to show people that someone can live a good life despite having it.

Jewell says when she had spinal surgery in 1999, she thought her standup career was over, until her sister talked her into performing for spinal patients in the hospital.

They’re also both furious with Rush Limbaugh for making fun of Michael J. Fox. Garr says she can’t imagine “what manner of human being” Limbaugh is. Jewell is more direct. She calls Limbaugh “an idiot.”

Both Garr and Jewell were honored with Victory Awards in Washington for showing people you can live productive lives with MS and CP.
