Terra Nova Co-Creator Kelly Marcel To Write Fifty Shades Of Grey Screenplay

Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele have found a screenwriter.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features have announced that Kelly Marcel will write the screenplay for the highly anticipated film adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

Kelly’s credits include serving as the co-creator and executive producer of FOX’s now-cancelled “Terra Nova” and she also penned “Saving Mr. Banks,” a movie currently in production with Disney about the company’s 20 year pursuit of P.L. Travers’ novel, “Mary Poppins,” which has Tom Hanks, Emma Thompson and Colin Farrell attached.

Kelly hit Twitter to express her joy over being selected for the high profile erotic project.

“Beyond thrilled to be jumping aboard the 50 Shades train. Very exciting!” she Tweeted.

But not every Hollywood scribe is happy about the announcement. Writer Bret Easton Ellis, who penned “The Canyons” with Lindsay Lohan and adult film star James Deen, slammed the choice.

“Kelly Marcel?!? KELLY MARCEL?!? Kelly Marcel is WRITING the script for “Fifty Shades of Grey”?!? THIS is the movie they want to make? ARGH,” he Tweeted, adding, ” Kelly Marcel: the creator of (gulp) “Terra Nova” and a Mary Poppins bio-pic has been blessed by EL James and no one can stop her. Dear God.”
