The Access Entertainment Week In Review

The week in entertainment news kicked off with the largest musical event in history, as Live Earth united the world with performances by the world’s biggest stars across all seven continents.

Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore organized the event to raise awareness about global warming, and over 100 musical acts lent their talent and support.

“Global warming is the greatest challenge facing our planet, and the gravest we’ve ever faced,” Gore said via live video to a crowd of over 50,000 in the kickoff city of Sydney, Australia. “But it’s one problem we can solve if we come together as one and take action and drive our neighbors, businesses and governments to act as well. That’s what Live Earth is all about.”

From Australia to America, artists as diverse as Madonna, The Police, Metallica, and Enrique Iglesias joined a host of others in a series of concerts that spanned a full 24 hours.

Stars also came together for another major event this week: the marriage of Eva Longoria and Tony Parker.

The “Desperate Housewives” star and NBA MVP were joined by family and friends in Paris, France, for a wedding weekend extravaganza ripped straight out of a fairy tale.

Eva’s “Desperate” co-stars Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Nicollette Sheridan and Brenda Strong attended the wedding ceremony on Saturday at Paris’ beautiful Saint-Germain-l’Auxerrois Church, along with Jessica Alba, Sheryl Crow, Ryan Seacrest, Mario Lopez and Huffman’s husband, William H. Macy.

The newlyweds then treated their guests to a lavish reception at the exquisite 17th-century Vaux-le-Vicomte chateau outside of Paris, which was reportedly illuminated by fireworks bursting above in celebration.

While many of the weekend’s happenings were kept under wraps at the time, Wednesday saw the release of the beautiful wedding photos, along with details from everything to Eva’s gorgeous gown, to the lavish gifts given to guests, to the 5-tier wedding cake that traveled 5,000 miles for the special day!

Another celebrity couple made big waves this week, as David and Victoria Beckham made their official move from Europe to the U.S. for David’s debut with the Los Angeles Galaxy Major League Soccer team.

America got a big taste of the Beckhams before they arrived, courtesy of a steamy photo spread of the scantily-clad couple in W magazine. But while they have sex appeal in spades, the superstars also share a deep love and support for each other.

“We’re so lucky to have each other,” Victoria told Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush. “I found my soul mate ten years ago when I met David…we’re there to support each other all the time.”

On Thursday, the couple and their three sons — Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz — left London, bound for LA.

When they arrived, it was pure media chaos – both at LAX and when he was introduced by the LA Galaxy on Friday.

It was a big week for movies, as “Transformers” ruled the box office — that is, until a little film called “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” flew in to break box office records with the biggest Wednesday opening of all time. With a domestic take of $44.2 million on that day alone, “Potter” looks primed to be the week’s champ when all is said and done.

“Hairspray” also made a splash, as the movie musical rolled out the red carpet for its Tuesday premiere in Hollywood. Stars Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer and John Travolta came out for the premiere, along with the cast’s younger members — Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes and rising star Nikki Blonsky.

Drama ran high for the stars of television this week, as Rachael Ray denied rumors of marital strife, Rosie O’Donnell reportedly lashed out at Donald Trump and Elisabeth Hasselbeck (again), and Anne Heche’s divorce battle with Coley Laffoon reached new heights with a legal dispute over alleged missing furniture and their pet cat.

“Simple Life” star Nicole Richie’s trial over DUI charges was postponed this week, after an LA Superior Court Commissioner granted a delay request by the defense. A motion to continue the case was originally filed in court on June 26. The request was made because the defense claimed their expert witness was unavailable to testify immediately. On Wednesday, a Commissioner approved the request, and the case has been continued until August 16.

“Mindfreak” magician Criss Angel publicly addressed allegations made last week by his soon-to-be ex-wife, which claimed that Cameron Diaz was involved in the couple’s split. “Cameron is a good friend and an amazing person, and to defame her and myself and paint her as the reason for my marriage’s demise is factually inaccurate, ridiculous and just plain wrong,” Angel said in a statement.

Diaz’s reps followed suit with a statement that also refuted the allegations. “Cameron and Criss went on only four dates over a month ago and have no current relationship,” the statement from Diaz’s publicist Brad Cafarelli read. “These are meaningless, attention-seeking attempts to unfairly and unnecessarily exploit Cameron’s celebrity by trying to involve her in matters she has nothing to do with.”

In other celebrity news: T.I. topped the Billboard 200 album chart, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs split from longtime girlfriend Kim Porter, Nick Lachey talked about his and Vanessa Minillo’s lack of privacy,Valerie Bertinelli addressed how far she’s come since joining Jenny Craig in early-March, and supermodel Petra Nemcova discussed her new TV series and her outlook on life since surviving the tsunami disaster of 2004.

Miss New Jersey, Amy Polumbo, went public with photos of herself which were sent anonymously to Miss America officials in an alleged attempt to blackmail her into bowing out of the pageant. While Polumbo confessed that the photos showed her acting “not in a ladylike manner,” officials decided the pictures did not merit stripping her of the title.

Access kicked off its exclusive “High School Musical 2,” coverage — each Friday, until the sequel’s premiere on August 17th, we’re bringing you hours of footage from our set visit.

And finally, actress Tatum O’Neal spoke to Access about her strained relationship with her father, Ryan O’Neal, as well as how she reached out to her father’s former companion, Farrah Fawcett, when she was diagnosed with cancer.
