Looks like The CW is heading back to “The City,” or at least, back in time with Carrie Bradshaw.
On Friday, the network announced it was picking up “The Carrie Diaries,” the “Sex and The City” prequel, based on the young adult novels from Candace Bushnell, according to TV Line.
The show stars AnnaSophia Robb as a teenage Carrie Bradshaw, and Stefania Owen, the daughter from the now-canceled Fox comedy “Running Wilde” as Carrie’s little sister, Dorrit.
The drama will focus on a high school-aged Carrie, following the death of her mother, as she is raised by her father in Connecticut.
Also picked up by the network, according to Vulture, was “Beauty and The Beast,” a retelling of the famed 1980s drama starring Ron Perlman and Linda Hamilton, now starring Kristin Kreuk and Jay Ryan.
“Green Arrow,” the superhero series, starring Stephen Arnell (formerly of HBO’s “Hung”) was also given the green light as was “First Cut,” a medical drama, and “Cult,” from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, Vulture reported.
In related TV news, NBC has pulled the plug on the Jason Isaacs-fronted “Awake,” as well as comedies “Bent,” “Best Friends Forever” and “Are You There, Chelsea?” a rep for NBC confirmed to Access Hollywood.
Additionally, Access has confirmed that “Harry’s Law” was also canceled.
