‘The Good Wife’: Josh Charles On Sweet Note He Received

Josh Charles hit the set of “The Late Show with David Letterman” on Monday where he discussed his shocking exit from “The Good Wife.”

Josh said fans of the show, who happen to be neighbors, were stunned and left saddened by his character’s exit.

“I went downstairs, and I saw by our mailbox, the neighbors across the street, who I don’t even know, had left my wife and I a really beautiful note just saying that,’We feel like a family member had died and we know this is just a TV show,’ and all that,” Josh told Dave. “I have to say, I was very touched by it. A lot of the, you know, the response on Twitter has been much the same and I just want to say to the fans that… I really appreciate all of your comments.”

Josh played Will Gardner on the series, the on/off love interest of Julianna Marguiles’ Alicia Florrick. Will and Alicia had developed a tense relationship in recent episodes after she snuck off with a co-worker to open her own, competing, firm.

In a twist fans didn’t see coming, Will was gunned down by a nervous client in a courtroom in Sunday’s episode.

“We’ve known this since last year,” Josh told Dave of leaving the show. “It’s been one of the greatest gigs for me in my entire career, but at the end of last year, my contract was up and I was just ready to kind of move on.”
