‘The Originals’: Nathan Parsons On Jackson & Hayley’s ‘Werewolf Ritual Wedding’

After weeks of fighting and strife on “The Originals,” on Monday, it’s time for something a little sweeter as Hayley and Jackson walk down the aisle.

“It has glimpses of traditional, but it’s also – it’s this weird werewolf ritual wedding, so it can’t be that traditional. We’re not gonna have, ‘Here comes the bride,’ and all that stuff. But… the crowd has gathered and vows are exchanged and it’s beautiful,” Nathan Parsons told Access Hollywood of the episode where Hayley and Jackson say “I do.” “It’s beautifully shot. I can’t wait to see how it turns out.”

The big event will take place in a familiar location.

“It was [filmed] in the compound… It’s an interesting discussion to be had,” Nathan said when Access asked if the wedding would happen outside. “We were talking about doing it in the Bayou, but it was January. It’s so cold. We can’t do that!”

Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) isn’t thrilled that the nuptials are taking place, but it should help the werewolves get their changing under control without those rings. And while Nathan confirmed that Hayley’s baby daddy will be at the event, Klaus won’t be walking her down the aisle.

“No, he’s not involved in the wedding. I mean, he’s Klaus. He’s probably going to be in a corner somewhere just staring and brooding and plotting, but he’ll be there,” Nathan said.

After trying to kill Jackson before the wolf learned Hayley and Klaus’ Hope secret in a recent episode, Klaus found himself shocked (and maybe even a little impressed) when Jackson asked the hybrid to help Hayley set their people free, should he die. But the two aren’t destined to become pals following the incident.

“I would definitely say hatred is a part of it. Klaus has tried to kill Jackson how many times now? He hasn’t quite done it yet. Thankfully, Hayley’s always there to save him, but I would say hatred is definitely a strong word to use in that relationship,” Nathan said, describing the situation between wolf and hybrid. “But there’s also – I don’t know if there is a way to redeem Klaus, but if there is, it would be in that moment when he kind of has a brief hesitation, I think. That’s the closest we’re gonna get.”

Once he marries Hayley at the wedding, Jackson will become stepdad to baby Hope, something Nathan’s character is ready to take on.

“He’s not really the parenting type, I think, but it’s a challenge that he’s definitely up for. He loves Hayley and he’s gonna love that baby too,” Nathan said.

But protecting Hayley, and in particular, baby Hope, will not be easy with all the threats in New Orleans.

“It is scary stuff and I think part of [it] – for Jackson, taking care of Hayley and taking care of this baby, it’s an honor for him. He’s finally gotten what he wants and maybe Hayley’s actually starting to see him as someone worth being with and so it’s an honor for him to really be able to step up and have been given that trust and entrusted with this child’s life. I mean, that’s a huge responsibility.”

Among the threats though, are the recently returned Freya Mikaelson, and the potential of the heavily-hinted-at Aunt Dahlia.

“Like you said, Dahlia may be coming and we still don’t know if Freya’s good or bad news,” Nathan said.

Good or bad news? One has to wonder about a witch who has spent the last 100 years of her life (and many more before that) in a coffin.

“That’s gotta mess with your head. There’s some trauma there. There’s gotta be,” Nathan laughed.

“There’s a lot coming and how Hayley and Jackson end up going forward, at least now, maybe they have a chance to do it together and they’re always stronger as a pack,” he added.

“The Originals” airs Monday at 8/7c on The CW.
