‘The Originals’ Season 2: After Bringing Back The Mikaelson Family, What’s Next?

Things recently got a lot more complicated for Klaus and Elijah in New Orleans.

The Guerrera wolves may be gone, but the brothers have a new enemy in town – their own kin. At the end of the Season 2 premiere last Monday night, it was revealed that both Kol and Finn are back from the other side and in the bodies of witches named Kaleb (Daniel Sharman) and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood).

Co-Executive Producer Michael Narducci addressed what fans can expect in the coming weeks as the vampire drama rolls out on Monday nights on The CW.

Family Ties?

“Our hope was that this would be the season about the return of mother and father and as you now know, the return of the brothers as well,” Narducci said of the big Season 2 premiere reveal about Kol and Finn. “They’ve been displaced in these bodies and there is a lot of family stuff that we need to get out. I think that’s the big theme of this season is the past returning to haunt you and enemies who are even more dangerous because they know you intimately.”

Davina To Continue Working To Try & Break The Sire Line

“I think it’s absolutely an obstacle keeping Davina from just unleashing Mikael,” Narducci said of why the teen witch hasn’t let Mikael loose.

“She wants to disconnect that sire line, which by the way, is probably also important for fans of ‘Vampire Diaries’ because that would mean Stefan and Damon wouldn’t die either,” he continued. “Pretty early on we’ll figure out what are the machinations, what does that look like, is that even possible and if it doesn’t work, what else could Davina do or is something horrible going to happen?”

Auntie Rebekah & Baby Hope Will Be Back; Esther To Target Her Sons First

“We’re gonna see Rebekah, we’re gonna see baby Hope and that’s gonna be an important thing,” the producer said. “As to what Esther’s plan for that baby is, Esther thinks that the baby died. Esther doesn’t know where Rebekah is. [Esther is] coming back with a definite agenda that we will start to see unpacked in Episodes 2 and 3, and obviously, because Klaus and Elijah remained in New Orleans, to be kind of the target of whatever would come after the family, they will be the first ones that meet up with their mother and find out what her intention is and have to deal with what Mikael’s intention is and then, down the line that’s gonna spread out to wherever Rebekah has herself hidden with the baby.”

Mikaelson Family Flashbacks Will Include Kol & Finn

Narducci said there will “be even more flashbacks this season,” and that will include Nathaniel Buzolic playing Kol again. Narducci also seemed to suggest we could see younger actors playing the Mikaelsons as children.

“We’re really excited to get into where this family comes from, why they are the way they are, what are their relationships like, not only with their parents, but with one another, even back in the day, and how has that lead them to be divided as they are,” Narducci said.

The flashbacks will start to occur in Episodes 2 and 3.

“You’re going to get to see a little bit more of how the Originals wound up leaving Europe and [came] to America — what that looked like,” he said.

“When we first met the Original family… [in ‘The Vampire Diaries’] Season 3, Episode 13, Kol Mikaelson is un-daggered and he’s walking around and he’s dressed in a garb that looks like it’s from the early 20th century and he’s ostensibly been daggered since that time. So, what was the story of that, and what did that look like?” Narducci said of what will be explored.

Davina: A Problem For Esther!

Kol (in the body of Kaleb) will be looking to help out his mother via his interest in the powerful teen witch Davina.

“In the second episode of the season, we really kind of explore what he’s doing and what his interests are and it kind of takes off from there. There is this notion that Davina, as a former, Harvest Girl, is one of the most powerful witches in New Orleans. She’s completely independent of Cassie [and] Esther,” Narducci said. “Esther did a locator spell in [the Season 2 premiere] and was not able to break past it so that gives you a sense of Esther’s frustration that there’s somebody else out there that’s kind of a wildcard in Esther’s plan. Whatever her agenda is for her children, there’s someone else out there and you and I know that Davina has her own feelings for the Original family and her own desires to deal with Klaus, but they might not match up exactly with what Esther’s plan is.”

The producer said Kol/Kaleb, “might be the best guy to go and find out what’s going on with Davina.”

Finn & Esther Have A Mysterious Interest In Camille

“I think that they have one of the coolest reasons possible for wanting to get to know Cami and at first you’re going to think it’s one thing and then, when you find out what it really is, you will be impressed,” he said.

“The Originals” airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.
