‘The Revolution’s’ Tim Gunn Addresses ‘One Life To Live’ Fans: ‘We’re A Different Flavor’

After more than 40 years on the air, “One Life To Live” ends its run on ABC this Friday, and “The Revolution” team, including Ty Pennington and Tim Gunn, which is taking its slot, is hoping daytime television watchers will tune in.

“We can’t replace that show, but what we offer is something different,” Ty said on Monday’s Television Critics Association Winter Session for “The Revolution,” before referencing his own show – “Extreme Home Makeover,” which was also axed from the air.

“That show got canceled too, and that’s something that’s very, very special to me,” he continued, addressing a question about angry soap fans who have vowed to turn their dials away from ABC when “OLTL” bows out. “It’s about change and ‘The Revolution’ is certainly about change.”

“We’re not trying to replace anyone, we’re a very different flavor,” Tim chimed in. “And we hope people will tune in and be inspired by the information that we give and by our takeaways and speaking for me… it’s just a great joy and a great privilege and honor to be part of ‘The Revolution.’”

The panel, including therapist Dr. Tiffanie Davis Henry, Tim, Ty, OB-GYN Dr. Jennifer Ashton and celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, and executive produced by former Nickelodeon host JD Roth, explained that “The Revolution” offers advice, and shows the months-long transformation of one woman each week.

“We work with people who are stuck,” Tim said.

“All of these women… I teach all of them how to cook, I teach all of them how to exercise, I teach them all how to read labels on boxes,” Harley said of some of his one-on-one counseling, which will be shown on “The Revolution.” “From the day they’re involved, we start that and we’re involved in each other’s lives for months.”

Although there are a lot of self-help, expert and advice style shows on the daytime dial, including “Dr. Oz,” “The Doctors,” and even ABC’s own, “The Chew,” Jennifer suggested their show is different because of the team.

“We offer what no other show does, five different experts in five different fields,” she said.

According to JD, “The Revolution” hopes to help people who are “on the hamster wheel” and looking to “be connected more.”

“What we’re really trying to do is help people create change in their life,” he said.

Ty noted that the show isn’t just for people who need major changes.

“We’re showing you ways you can add a little fun into your life… add a little spice, a little excitement into so many different areas of your life,” he noted.

“The Revolution” premieres on January 16 2 EST /1 PST on ABC.
