‘The Simpsons Movie’ To Premiere In Springfield, VERMONT

SPRINGFIELD, Vermont (July 10, 2007) — “Simpsons” fans of Springfield, Vermont are happier than Homer in a donut shop over the news that their town will host the hometown premiere of “The Simpsons Movie!”

Fourteen Springfields across the nation competed for the honor by submitting fan-made videos displaying their enthusiasm for all things “Simpsons.”

Twentieth Century Fox partnered with USA TODAY’s Web site for the contest, on which all 14 videos were posted for viewers to watch and vote for their favorite.

You can view all 14 videos (including the hilarious winning entry) .

Out of 109,582 total votes, Vermont’s Springfield logged the most with 15,367 by the time voting ended last night at 11:59 PM.

As the winning town, the premiere will take place at their own Springfield Movie Theatre on July 21, with the movie’s filmmakers stopping by to walk the yellow carpet!

Patricia Chaffee, vice president of the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce in Vermont, told USA TODAY how special this was for her small town of 9,300 people:

“We’re so excited. We came in at the last minute, and for us to win, we feel like the underdogs, which makes this so big and so great for us.”

The other 13 entries which came in behind Vermont will get an advance screening of “The Simpsons Movie” one night before it opens nationwide, on July 27.

Thirty-four states in the USA have a “Springfield,” and the running gag on the show has been to never reveal which state the Simpson family inhabits.
