‘The Social Network’s’ Armie Hammer Explains How He Became Facebook Friends With The Winklevoss Twins

“The Social Network’s” Armie Hammer, who plays both Cameron & Tyler Winklevoss in the David Fincher-directed movie, said he became friends with the real-life Olympic athlete twins with the help of the company they sued.

“My resourceful wife introduced us, ironically over Facebook,” Armie told Billy Bush when he stopped by “The Billy Bush Show” and Access Hollywood Live on Thursday.

Armie’s wife, Elizabeth Chambers, who was also in studio on Thursday, revealed how she attempted to connect her husband with the twins.

“I friended them over Facebook, I wanted to get in their heads, because he hadn’t got the role yet,” Elizabeth told Billy. “But, I really couldn’t garner much from their e-mails. They used emoticons. They’re great guys and we’re friends with them in real life.”

Unlike the Winklevoss brothers and his wife, the actor is not on the social networking website.

“I don’t have a Facebook and you know what’s funny, none of the actors in this movie do either,” he added.

Earlier on Thursday during his appearance on Access Hollywood Live, the 24-year-old actor said now that he has distance from the events and characters portrayed in “The Social Network,” he’s not taking sides.

“I think it’s just a bunch of college kids, who probably all had similar good ideas, but they were probably all irresponsible at one point,” he told Billy and Kit Hoover. “I don’t think there’s any one person to blame.”

Following the debut of the movie, which shows the Winklevoss twins settle out of court with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg for $65 million, Armie said the brothers are happy with his take on them on-screen.

“They were happy… we e-mail every now and then,” Armie said. “There side of the story was presented with some sort of perspective and truth, so I think they’re happy about that.”

In related news, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed a report that Zuckerberg recently took some employees to see “The Social Network.”

“To celebrate a period of intense activity at Facebook, we decided to go to the movies. We thought this particular movie might be amusing,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement to Access.
