The Voice: Shakira & Adam Levine Talk ‘Brutal’ Eliminations

New “The Voice” judge Shakira was forced to eliminate one of her talented contestants on Tuesday night’s show – and the hip-shaking star hated having to send of her own packing.

“I was really, really down,” the new mom told Access Hollywood after the show in Los Angeles, when asked how she felt while deciding which artist to axe from the NBC hit.

For Shakira, the decision came down to two artists (after Kris Thomas and Sasha Allen were saved by viewer votes) – powerhouse vocalist Karina Iglesias or teen rocker Garrett Gardner. The singer ultimately let Karina go, but felt terrible about it.

“It’s the moment I was [dreading] for a long time. I feel like I broke Karina’s heart today,” she told Access. “But I had to go with Garrett because I feel like I can really make a difference in his life.”

It’s Adam Levine’s fourth season as a judge on the show, but he still had a hard time eliminating singer/songwriter Caroline Glaser on Tuesday.

“It was brutal,” Adam said, of his last-minute decision to keep Sarah Simmons instead of Caroline. “It just sucks. You don’t want to let anybody down.”

“The Voice” continues next Monday night at 8/7c on NBC.
