The Voice’s Stephanie Anne Johnson On Her Team CeeLo Steal ‘I’m Sure I Cried On His Leather!’

Cruise ship singer Stephanie Anne Johnson thought her ship was sunk when her coach, Christina Aguilera, chose to keep tax preparer Olivia Henken over her during last night’s battle rounds on “The Voice.” That was, until CeeLo Green swooped in for the final steal of the battle rounds.

“I’m standing there and I thought it was over and I was seeing the ocean in my mind thinking ‘Oh no. I’m getting back on a cruise ship,” the singer told reporters Wednesday morning in a conference call.

CeeLo had praised Stephanie after tackling The Band Perry’s song “Done,” a song she had never even heard before Christina chose it for the battle.

“For someone who never heard this record, you couldn’t tell at all,” CeeLo told her. “You really made it yours. You gave it soul.”

Stephanie, an indie-soul singer, admits to being a country fan, especially old school country.

“I really like country music,” she admitted. “But I tend to like the old age country music like Patsy Cline and Hank Williams and Conway Twitty. My experience with modern country kind of ends at Gretchen Wilson. So, I wasn’t quite prepared.”

She also wasn’t quite prepared when CeeLo pressed his steal button causing her to break down in tears.
“I’m sure I cried on his leather,” she chuckled. “That’s OK. It was pretty wild.”

Stephanie’s grandmother jumped to her feet, cheering for her granddaughter with exuberance, something that made her a fast fan of the coaches and the audience who chanted, “Grandma! Grandma!”

“She is a really wonderful lady. So any success that she gets from this is all to the good,” Stephanie said of her grandmother.

Just don’t let CeeLo know that grandma isn’t quite a fan yet.

“My grandmother has never heard of CeeLo Green before in her life!” Stephanie revealed with a laugh. “I think she still thinks that his name is Kilo. Like K-I–L–O. She told me as I was leaving the house this morning she wanted to remind me to be nice to Mr. Kilo.”

“The Voice” continues next week with the knockout rounds Monday at 8 PM ET/PT on NBC.
