‘The Walking Dead’ Recap: Episode 415 — ‘Us’

There was a big reunion, a scary revelation and dinosaur extinction talk on “The Walking Dead” Season 4, Episode 415, “Us.”

Here’s our blow-by-blow recap of the episode:

Glenn/Tara/Abraham/Rosita/Eugene, The Train Tracks: Making small talk, Dr. Eugene Porter jokes to Tara that maybe the disease that turned folks into walkers wiped out the dinosaurs. He doesn’t believe it, but he is amused by the idea of zombie raptors.

Later that night, while keeping watch, Sgt. Abraham Ford and Tara have a heart to heart. He shares his mission again – to get Eugene to Washington, D.C., to solve the zombie apocalypse problem. He thought her mission – to get Glenn to Maggie — was born out of love for her companion, but he has since come to realize that Tara likes girls, particularly his sidekick Rosita.

On the road the next day, Tara spots something and runs ahead. Glenn’s eyes widen. It’s Maggie’s sign, the walker blood it’s written in is now brown. He begins sprinting down the tracks.

Daryl & The Survivalists, The Woods: As the men sleep, a walker approaches their camp, slicing his face open on barbed wire they have strung up for protection. The noise prompts the men into action, one of them killing the walker, after which he takes care of his morning business (a No. 1, if you must know). “Looks like that Robin Hood cat cut out on us after all,” a man with a bandana says. Len, the survivalist who didn’t like Daryl upon sight, suggests Dixon went off “for a morning deuce.”

Rick/Carl/Michonne, The Train Tracks: Focusing on their plan to get to Terminus, Rick starts talking strategy, but finds a surprise when he turns around – Carl and Michonne are playing. Who can walk on the side of the tracks longer without falling, is their game and Carl wins. His prize? A Big Cat candy bar. The youngster takes his winnings, sharing them with Michonne, prompting Rick to grin ear to ear.

Daryl & The Survivalists, The Woods: Raising his crossbow, Daryl takes aim at a rabbit. Just as he shoots, another arrow comes winging its way past, courtesy of Len. Both arrows hit the target. “If I was you, I’d hand it over, now,” Len demands, introducing his group’s concept of “claimed.” Joe steps in and stops things before the conflict turns bloody. “I laid out some rules of the road to keep things from going Darwin every couple hours… all you gotta do is claim,” Joe explains. Not ready to accept things, Daryl won’t let go of the rabbit, so Joe, cuts it in half. “An ass end’s still an end,” Joe says.

Glenn/Tara/Abraham/Rosita/Eugene, The Train Tracks: Sgt. Ford demands they stop for rest, but Glenn can’t. As a walker in the tower above them falls, Tara injures her leg, but vows to keep going. “Wow, you’re an ass!” Rosita says to Glenn. “She will do whatever you say because she thinks she owes you. Man up. Stay here for a few hours!” Instead, Glenn offers a trade – soldier on until nightfall and Glenn will give Eugene his protective riot gear. Sgt. Ford agrees and they keep going.

Daryl & The Survivalists, The Woods: Joe continues to work on turning Daryl on to the idea of staying with his group – but he needs to follow the rules. What happens if you don’t follow them? A beating – to various degrees, Joe explains, as they find a shelter for the night. Daryl takes umbrage at being called part of their group (Joe used the word, “us”), and Joe compares him to a cat. “Ain’t nothin’ sadder than an outdoor cat, thinks he’s an indoor cat.”

Glenn/Tara/Abraham/Rosita/Eugene, The Train Tracks: Up ahead, there’s another sign from Maggie, still wet in walker blood. “That there is a long, dark tunnel full of reanimated corpses. I don’t have full certainty [we’ll] get Eugene through there alive,” Sgt. Ford tells Glenn, revealing they’ll be parting ways here. Eugene has parting words too. “I have to say that you are seriously hot, Tara.” “Yeah, I like girls,” she replies.

Inside the tunnel, Tara shares her guilt over siding with Brian (The Governor) and how when she saw him kill Hershel, she realized she was on the wrong side. “That’s when I knew — that second, that sword. I wanted to scream, ‘No!’ but it just happened.”

Daryl & The Survivalists, A Shelter: Inside a car barn, Len starts claiming any vehicle Daryl goes near, and looks displeased when he sees Daryl put his stuff down in a spot he can’t claim – the floor.

Glenn/Tara, Inside The Tunnel: Deep inside the tunnel, Glenn and Tara reach a horrific site – dozens of walkers trapped in the rubble of a freshly fallen roof. Searching the faces for Maggie, Glenn doesn’t find her. As they scale the rocks, they find even more walkers on the other side. None of them are Maggie. Glenn thinks they can push through, but Tara trips and gets her leg lodged in a crevice.

Abraham/Rosita/Eugene, The Road: A walker in a minivan is no use for Sgt. Ford who quickly kills it and commandeers the van. Eugene won’t let Rosita be the navigator. Making her turn left and left again, he sneakily leads them to train tracks to meet up again with Glenn and Tara. “After I save the world, I still have to live with myself. I’m not leaving them behind,” he says, heroically. Sgt. Ford wakes up and is not amused and starts a screaming match with Rosita. “Guys!” Eugene says, seeing something out the window. They all freeze.

Daryl & The Survivalists, A Shelter: Len demands Daryl empty his bag, accusing him of stealing the other half of the rabbit. As the rabbit falls out of Daryl’s garbage bag, Mr. Dixon grows irate. “You put that there didn’t you? When I went out to take a piss,” Daryl says. Len demands Daryl get a beating, but Joe suggests Len might have planted the rabbit on Daryl, like “some p***y punk ass cheating coward cop.” Joe takes a swing at Len, and tells his men to teach Len a lesson. “I saw him do it,” Joe tells Daryl. “You told the truth. He lied. You understand the rules. He doesn’t,” Joe tells Daryl.

Glenn/Tara, Inside The Tunnel: Glenn refuses to leave Tara, who is really stuck, and focuses on taking down walkers. More walkers than bullets, their cause seemed doomed when something lights up the tunnel. “Get down,” someone screams, as six figures start firing at the walkers. It’s Bob, Sasha, Sgt. Ford, Rosita, Eugene and Maggie! The walkers all dead, Glenn and Maggie embrace.

“God, you are so beautiful,” Glenn tells her.

“I met Tara on the road, couldn’t have made it without her,” Glenn says to Maggie, as the two women meet. “She said she had to help me. She’s just that kind of person.”

Sgt. Ford suggests they all go to Washington, but Eugene has other ideas. “We’re a day’s walk from Terminus. Who knows what they’ve got there.” Sgt. Ford agrees. “Tomorrow we go to the end of the line. Then, Washington.”

Later that night, Glenn and Maggie catch up. His photo of her falls out of a blanket. “You don’t need a picture of me,” she says – and he never will again.

Daryl & The Survivalists, A Shelter: Daryl wakes up and sees Len’s blood on the shelter floor. As they head out, he sees what’s left of Len – his mangled body and an arrow through his eye.

Walking with Joe in the woods, the two share some white lightning. “We’re getting closer,” one of the survivalists says, as they see a Terminus sign. “I’ll tell you what it is, it’s a lie. Ain’t no sanctuary for all. Think they’re gonna welcome guys like you and me with open arms?” Joe tells Daryl, before revealing something else – they’re heading to Terminus, tracking Rick (they don’t know his name and only one of them saw his face), for retribution for what happened at the house. As they walk on, Daryl steps over a Big Cat wrapper.

Glenn/Maggie/Tara/Sasha Bob/Abraham/Eugene/Rosita, Terminus: “Lower your weapons. You will be met. You have arrived at Terminus” reads a sign as they walk in past sunflowers, gardens, sun umbrellas and washing boards. As they head in, a hippie looking woman turns to look at them. “Hi, I’m Mary. Looks like you’ve been on the road for a while. … Let’s get you settled and we’ll make you a plate. Welcome to Terminus,” she says.

Next Sunday, the Season 4 finale of “The Walking Dead” airs at 9 PM ET/PT on AMC.
