‘The X Factor’ Final 32 Are Named, Judges Find Out Which Groups They’re Mentoring

“The X Factor” boot camp is over and three competitors who captured America’s attention following the premiere of Simon Cowell’s singing competition just weeks ago, have made it through to the next round where the judges become mentors.

Chris Rene, the 28-year-old trash collector, working on maintaining sobriety, who impressed the judges and America with his own song “Young Homie” in the audition round, is carrying on and will be coached by L.A. Reid, who was given the “Boys” group on Thursday night’s episode.

L.A. will also coach Brennin Hunt, the model-worthy country singer, Nick Voss, who looked like a young Elvis, but danced like Michael Jackson, and Marcus Canty, who covered Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish” at his audition.

Another premiere night competitor, the plucky Rachel Crow, now 14, who mentioned she’d like to win the $5 million prize so she doesn’t have to share the bathroom with her whole family, also made it after stirring the crowd with a monumental version of Beyonce’s “If I Were A Boy,” as she competed again to stay.

Rachel and the rest of the “Girls” group, including Tora Woloshin, the bleach blonde, tattooed pop powerhouse, and red lipstick-wearing Tiah Tolliver, who split the judges at her audition, will be mentored by Simon Cowell.

Although she wanted the “Girls” group, Nicole Scherzinger was given the “Over 30s,” a group which includes premiere night standout 42-year-old Stacy Francis, who missed her father’s funeral to stay in the competition. Also being mentored by Nicole is 59-year-old LeRoy Bell, with the soulful, Cat Stevens-like voice, and burrito maker Josh Krajick, from Columbus, Ohio.

Paula Abdul will coach the “Groups” category, which included siblings The Brewer Boys, as well as The Stereo Hogzz. Two groups were actually formed out of some of the solo singers who were cut from the solo categories.
