T.I. Holds Tight To The Top Of The Charts

T.I. tops the Billboard 200 album chart for the 2nd week in a row, despite an overall slump in sales.

The rapper sold 175,249 copies of his latest album, “T.I. vs T.I.P.” — a 63% decrease from last week’s powerful debut of nearly 468,000.

Although T.I. suffered a steep sales drop this week, he still moved enough copies to beat out the debut of a new offering from The Smashing Pumpkins (at # 2).

The alt-rock veterans’ “Zeitgeist” sold 144,760 copies, which is still noteworthy considering their seven-year absence from the music scene.

Miley Cyrus falls one spot to land at # 3 this week, selling 128,230 copies of her two-disc set, “Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus.”

Former indie band Interpol debuts at # 4 with their first major-label release, “Our Love To Admire.” The rock quartet (newly signed to Capitol Records) sold 73,223 copies of “Admire,” marking a first-week career best for them.

Kelly Clarkson’s “My December” continues to drop, falling two spots to land at # 5. The former “American Idol” faced a near-50% sales decrease this week, selling 58,593 copies.

Bon Jovi also lost ground this week, coming in at # 6 after taking 4th place last week with “Lost Highway.”

Linkin Park and Fergie actually climbed the chart this week, despite selling less copies of their albums. Linkin Park’s “Minutes to Midnight” clocks in at # 7, while Fergie’s “The Dutchess” returns to the Top 10 at # 8.

Amy Winehouse drops one spot to land at # 9 this week, while indie rock outfit Spoon scores a career-best debut with “Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga” at # 10.

Plain White T’s continue to enjoy the most downloads this week, as “Hey There Delilah” tops the Hot Downloaded Singles chart again.

Even the Plain White T’s weren’t immune to sales fatigue this week, however. They, along with everyone else in the Top 10, made less of a splash compared to last week’s figures.

Below are Billboard’s Top 10 Album and Top 10 Downloaded Singles charts for the week.
