T.I. Sets Billboard Chart On Fire Despite Slow Holiday Week

NEW YORK, NY (July 12, 2007) — Rapper T.I. storms the Billboard 200 chart this week with the # 1 debut of his new album, “T.I. vs T.I.P.” In what is usually a slow July 4th holiday week, “T.I. vs T.I.P.” sold an impressive 467,737 copies — making it the biggest urban premiere of the year, and second only to Linkin Park’s “Minutes to Midnight” as the biggest debut so far in 2007.The album also debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.Coming in at # 2 on the Billboard 200 chart is last week’s champ, Miley Cyrus, with her two-disc set “Hannah Montana 2 (Soundtrack)/Meet Miley Cyrus.” The tween queen of the Disney Channel sold 187,638 copies this week.

Kelly Clarkson’s “My December” falls one spot to land at # 3 this week, and Bon Jovi drops to 4th place with their latest, “Lost Highway.” Velvet Revolver returns to the chart at # 5 with the debut of their second album, “Libertad.” The rock supergroup (comprised of former members of Guns N’ Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, and Wasted Youth) last charted in 2004 with the # 1 debut of their first album, “Contraband.”Kelly Rowland debuts at # 6 with her second album, “Ms. Kelly.” The former member of Destiny’s Child previously peaked at # 12 with her solo debut, “Simply Deep,” in 2002.Brad Paisley’s “5th Gear” is 5th no longer — the country star’s album dropped two spots to land at # 7 this week.Rounding out the Top 10 are Amy Winehouse, Linkin Park and The White Stripes, who were also faced with sales drops this week.Pop/punk outfit Plain White T’s rule the Hot Downloaded Singles chart for the 2nd week in a row with “Hey There Delilah,” while Fergie and Rihanna swap places to come in at #’s 2 and 3, respectively.Below are Billboard’s 1.
