Timbaland, ‘NOW 24’ Top Billboard Charts

LOS ANGELES (April 18, 2007) — It was a sluggish week for album sales. The NOW 24 compilation album stays at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart, despite selling only 89,213 copies.

Tim McGraw held on to the # 2 spot, but actually sold less than half the amount of copies he sold last week in the same position.

Akon makes a leap from # 9 to # 3, but, like the two albums above him, he sold less copies this week than last week.

# 4 offers a breath of fresh air, with the debut of a new album from indie rockers Bright Eyes.

Bright Eyes’ “Cassadaga” is one of only two new albums that cracked the Top 40 this week, with the other being the self-titled album from HellYeah at #9.

HellYeah, a metal supergroup comprised of members of Pantera, Mudvayne and Nothingface, moved nearly 45,000 copies with their Epic debut.

Timbaland held fast to # 5, while Daughtry and Beyonce flip-flopped positions from last week at #‘s 6 and 7, respectively.

Rounding out the Top 10 are country singer (and “American Idol” mentor) Martina McBride at # 8 and country/bluegrass performer Alison Krauss at # 10.

Timbaland (with help from Nelly Furtado and Justin Timberlake) dominates the Hot Downloaded Singles chart, with nearly triple the amount of sales as compared to the album chart’s # 1 — further proof that the music industry is being overtaken by digital technology.

With brand new releases from Avril Lavigne and Nine Inch Nails in stores, the album chart may get some new life breathed into it next week.

Below are Billboard’s Top 10 Album and Top 10 Downloaded Singles charts for the week.
