Tina Fey To Reteam With Ricky Gervais For Muppets Sequel?

With the end of “30 Rock” drawing near, Tina Fey is lining up new projects (including co-hosting the upcoming Golden Globes with fellow “Saturday Night Live” alum Amy Poehler) and the actress may have yet another (far furrier!) project lined up.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tina is nearing a deal to star in “The Muppets” European-set sequel as a Russian Gulag prison guard.

If the actress signs on for the movie, she would join Ricky Gervais (who she co-starred with in 2009’s “The Invention of Lying”) as the two human lead characters in the beloved puppet story.

“Modern Family’s” Ty Burrell is also on board, playing a “lazy” Interpol inspector, THR reported.

As previously reported on AccessHollywood.com, Jason Segel — who penned and starred in the first “Muppets” reboot back in 2011 — will not be involved in the sequel.

“I worked on [‘The Muppets’] for half a decade. I’m incredibly proud of what I did,” Jason explained to Access Hollywood last year, of why he chose to pass puppet torch. “My goal wasn’t to become a Muppet – I just wanted to restore The Muppets to The Muppets I grew up with and give them a platform to do everything that they want to do.”

Adding, “I had what I think was a really good idea for the Muppet re-launch and I didn’t have an organic idea ready for the sequel, so I thought [I should] leave it to someone who does,” he said.
