Tom Cruise Signs On To ‘Sleeper’

Tom Cruise’s next mission: comic book movies. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cruise is loosely attached to “Sleeper,” an adaption of a DC/Wildstorm series to be produced by “Spider-Man” director Sam Raimi.

“Sleeper,” not to be confused with the 1973 Woody Allen film, follows the story of an undercover agent who can absorb and pass along pain, thanks to an alien artifact which makes him impervious. Placed in an enemy organization, he falls in love with the villainous Miss Misery, according to trade mag.

The comic book was written by Ed Brubaker (“Captain America”) and illustrated by Sean Phillips (“Hellblazer”).

Cruise, looking to rebound after box office disappointment “Lions For Lambs,” has earned good buzz for his unexpected role in “Tropic Thunder” as a bald, potty-mouthed film mogul. His next film is World War II movie “Valkyrie,” due December 26.

Cruise has also been reportedly attached to a Spyglass thriller, “Tourist,” and “Food Fight,” a Working Title-Universal comedy.
