Tonight’s TV: Tuesday, October 3rd

Friday night football, on Tuesdays.

NBC debuts its new series tonight, “Friday Night Lights.” It’s based on the film and the best-selling book by the same name. Kyle Chandler stars as a new high-school football coach in a Texas town where championship rings are everything.

While the football is fictional, on Fox the baseball is real. The post-season action begins with the Detroit Tigers visiting the New York Yankees.

ESPN will be carrying the two other games today, the Oakland Athletics at the Minnesota Twins; and St. Louis Cardinals visiting the San Diego Padres.

Get ready for more dancing feet on ABC. Eight couples remain on “Dancing with the Stars.” They perform tonight, with the results show tomorrow. Later on ABC, Tom Selleck guest-stars on an episode of “Boston Legal.”

“NCIS” starts the night off for CBS. On “The Unit,” the team has to rescue two of its own. The new series “Smith” follows.

TCM, Turner Classic Movies, has Woody Allen’s “Annie Hall.” Diane Keaton won an Oscar for the title role.
