Tony’s Take: Glamorous Scarlett (September 7, 2006)

When I looked into Scarlett Johansson?s eyes? I couldn’t help but think?. she was born in the wrong era? She?s such a natural starlet from Hollywood?s golden days of the 40s and 50s?.except she?s in 2006.

She?d fit in perfectly on a red carpet alongside Hollywood legends like Ava Gardner and Jean Harlow.

And it doesn?t help that her new movie, “The Black Dahlia,” is set in the 40s? or that we were sitting in a hotel made famous by the likes of Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Bette Davis, Spencer Tracy and countless other big time stars from that by-gone era — The Biltmore in downtown Los Angeles. Stewart won his Oscar for ?The Philadelphia Story? at the Academy Awards held at The Biltmore. So did Tracy and Davis. It has been beautifully restored to it?s glorious former self.

So, why are we at The Biltmore? Because it is the last place the woman known as ?The Black Dahlia?was seen alive? plus, we?re talking about Scarlett?s new movie of the same name. It?s also the movie where she fell in love with her co-star, Josh Hartnett.

She didn?t want to talk much about that? however, she did light up when talking about his butt. Yep, you read that right. I should explain.

In the movie, Hartnett not only has a love scene with Scarlett? but with Hilary Swank, too (and he got paid for this?).

And in that scene with Swank? Josh rolls outta bed away from the camera (and outta the scene) in the full morning light, buck-naked. Well, Josh thought it was outta the scene and outta frame.

Nope.

Director Brian De Palma didn?t tell Josh he shot the whole thing. So, imagine naked boy?s shock when he privately views the film and… BAM! There he is in all his nakedness. Much to Scarlett?s delight, the shot is staying in the film.

On a scale of 1-10 she says she rates it above a 10? like maybe a ?Spinal Tap? 11? Me, I don?t rate mens’ butts, so I?ll take her word for it.

She did say she?s all for men showing more in movies? women have to do it all the time.

Turnabout is fair play.

I?d like more Scarlett and Hilary, but that?s just me.
