Torrance Coombs Teases ‘Reign’s’ ‘Consummation’ Ep

When “Reign” began its journey on The CW back in October, a young Mary Queen of Scots, and her ladies in waiting, found themselves a little embarrassed, a little shocked and a little titillated (Kenna) in the premiere episode, while watching a young noble couple consummate their marriage.

This week, in Thursday’s new episode, titled “Consummation,” it appears that custom may once again rear its head. Exactly who is involved, however, has yet to be revealed.

“Bash and Francis are both there, somebody’s consummating something and as joyous as an occasion as that should be, somebody’s going to be left out in the cold,” Torrance Coombs, who plays Bash, told Access Hollywood. “So it’s going to be a real mixed emotions sort of episode.”

Things we know – in the episode, Adelaide Kane’s Mary is in a wedding dress, and King Henry (Alan Van Sprang) tells her (in the show’s preview), “You will wed one of my sons tonight.” Adding to the potential intrigue is the arrival – finally – of Queen Mary’s mother, Mary of Guise (Amy Brenneman).

Back in January, “Reign” Executive Producer seemed to hint that Mary’s mother isn’t the cuddliest.

“Catherine, for all of her flaws, would die for her children. Mary of Guise, sent her daughter far away, hoping for the best,” , at the time. “But, in defense to her, she was the mother of an only child who was a female heir and she has been ruling a country while this child grew up.”

Asked about the not-very-cuddly Mary of Guise, Torrance hinted that she will join in, in attempting to sway the battle for Mary’s heart.

“She doesn’t seem like a person who gives much of a crap about a prophecy or believes in any of that,” Torrance said. “She’s pretty no nonsense and she’s manipulative and she’s another Catherine coming in, but with another agenda.”

“Reign” continues tonight at 9/8c on The CW.
