T.R. Knight Joins Growing List Of Celebs Donating Funds To Fight Proposition 8

T.R. Knight has donated $50,000 to help defeat a California Proposition aimed at ending gay marriage, according to the Advocate.

Knight’s contribution finds the “Grey’s Anatomy” star joining a growing list of Celebes including Brad Pitt, Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw and Pete Wentz who have all donated funds to the No on Prop. 8 campaign.

If passed, Proposition 8 would define marriage as “only… between a man and a woman,” in the California Constitution.

Should the proposition pass, the recent flood of marriages between gay couples including Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, and George Takei and his lifelong partner-turned husband, Brad Altman, would become null and void.

Recently, Jonathan Lewis, a gay, Ohio based entrepreneur and political activist put out a call for Hollywood to rally together and donate $500,000 for the No on Prop. 8 campaign. According to the Advocate, Lewis and his family will match the contributions made.

“With Election Day five weeks away, we are concerned that the entertainment industry hasn’t stepped up to the plate to fight this unnecessary initiative,” Lewis said in a statement. “We are pleased to see the leadership of Brad Pitt and Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg. Now it’s time for the entertainment industry as a whole to take the lead.

So far, Hollywood notables have donated more than $350,000. Pitt personally put in $100,000, Spielberg and Capshaw gave $100,000, Wentz and his band Fall Out Boy added $50,000, Knight’s contribution also amounted to $50,000. And, according to the Advocate, funny lady Chelsea Handler also pitched in $5,000.
