‘Twilight Saga’ Screenwriter On ‘Breaking Dawn’s’ Two-Film Split

Since news broke that “The Twilight Saga’s” final chapter, “Breaking Dawn,” would be adapted into two films by Summit Entertainment, Twi-hards have wondered how the novel would be split – and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg has offered the first clue.

“We’re kind of still deciding that. I’m doing first drafts now,” she explained to Reuters. “But I think it comes down to Bella as human and Bella as vampire. [‘Breaking Dawn’ director] Bill Condon may give you a different answer, but I think it’s a natural break. There’s her as a human with the baby and everything and then there’s her as a parent and a vampire.”

“Breaking Dawn” includes Edward (Robert Pattinson) and Bella’s (Kristen Stewart) wedding, Bella’s pregnancy and the birth of a supernatural baby – which would be a lot for one film.

Though the two-film news was long-rumored, Rosenberg added that it wasn’t locked in as long as some might have thought.

“When we started, everyone was a little bit unsure,” she said. “It kind of came down to me looking at the book and going, ‘Are there two movies in this?’

“We all wanted it to be two movies,” she continued. “Then it came down to, ‘Are the actors available for two movies?’ So there were a lot of things that went into this decision.”

With her “Twilight Saga” run almost finished, Rosenberg – who has scripted each of the series’ films, including “Eclipse,” which will hit theaters on June 30 – told Reuters she hopes to use her newfound notoriety to launch a new female-centric production company.

“It’s called Tall Girls Productions,” she said. “The charter of it, if there is one, would be to create some strong roles for women… the female Batman, the female Tony Soprano. It will require a lot of work on my part, but I know it’s what I want to do.”
