‘Ugly Betty’ The Broadway Musical?

“Ugly Betty” could be the newest Hollywood import coming to a Broadway stage, at least according to “Betty” cast member Michael Urie.

The actor, who plays Wilhelmina Slater’s flamboyant sidekick Marc St. James, told Britain’s Heart FM, as reported by The Los Angeles Times, that plans for a stage version of the telenovela-based television series are in the works.

“They do want to do an ‘Ugly Betty’ musical, a full-on Broadway musical, but it’s all hush-hush,” Michael said. “I think it would be great, and they should use the cast from the show. I think we would all do it, although we maybe don’t dance and sing as well as professional singers and dancers. I think it would be fun for us to do it for a while, and then they could get real people in.”

If the Broadway version of “Betty” does not come together, Michael said there are still plans for Broadway style episode for the ABC series.

“They definitely want to do an episode that is a musical one,” he added.
