UPDATED: Billy Ray & Tish Cyrus File For Divorce, Singer Asking For Shared Custody Of Kids

Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, parents of teen star Miley Cyrus, have filed for divorce, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

The couple is divorcing after 17 years of marriage.

According to divorce papers filed in Tennessee on Tuesday and obtained by Access (People was first to first the news), Billy Ray filed for the divorce citing irreconcilable differences. He is asking for shared custody of the couple’s three minor children and an “equitable distribution of the marital estate.”

The singer is also is asking the court to approve an agreed upon “parenting plan” for their children

“As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family,” they said in a statement to the mag.

“We are trying to work through some personal matters,” the statement continued. “We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.”

Billy Ray and Tish have five children together.
