UPDATED: Zac Efron Exits ‘Footloose’ Remake

Zac Efron’s dancing days are over – at least when it comes to remake of “Footloose,” Access Hollywood has confirmed.

The “High School Musical” star is no longer attached to remake of the 1984 Kevin Bacon movie.

According to TheWrap.com, who first reported the news of the actor’s departure, Zac reportedly told the studio that he’s not interested in doing another musical right now.

“People had been working on this project since last July — we were all shocked,” a movie source told the Web site.

However, a rep for Paramount told Access that the remake will move forward without Zac.

“Footloose is a project we’ve longed to see re-booted for a new generation. While Zac is no longer attached, we remain excited and committed to the collective brain trust of Kenny Ortega, Neil Meron and Craig Zaden, who will reinvigorate the franchise,” a rep for the studio said in a statement released to Access. “Their fresh take on the film will undoubtedly be filled with the same kind of breakout performances that we’ve come to expect from them.”

Zac will next be seen on the big screen in “17 Again,” due out in April.
