Vanilla Ice Arrested For Burglary & Grand Theft

Vanilla Ice once rapped, “Anything less than the best is a felony,” lyrics that might sting a little following his arrest on Wednesday.

Access Hollywood has confirmed that the rapper-turned-home renovator, 47, whose real name is Robert VanWinkle, was taken into custody in Lantana, Fla., and police say he will be charged with burglary residence and grand theft.

The arrest is a result of a Lantana Police Department investigation into a residential burglary that occurred sometime during December 2014 and February 2015.

According to the Lantana Police Department, furniture, a pool heater, bicycles and other items were removed from a residence that is in the process of foreclosure.

“During the investigation, it was determined Robert Matthew VanWinkle played a role in the burglary and theft. Mr. VanWinkle is currently renovating the residence adjacent to the property in which the items were stolen. A search warrant was obtained and executed in unincorporated Palm Beach County in which several of the stolen items were recovered at a residence under the care and control of Robert VanWinkle. The property was identified by the victim at that location and returned to the rightful owner,” the Lantana Police Department said in a release on Wednesday.

“Robert Matthew VanWinkle voluntarily met with detectives at the Lantana Police Department to provide a sworn statement. Based on the evidence collected, witness statements and corroborating statements, VanWinkle was taken into custody and charged with Burglary Residence and Grand Theft,” the statement continued.

Access spoke to Chief Sean Scheller of the Lantana Police Dept., who said the “Ice Ice Baby” rapper has been “very cordial and cooperative” and will be transferred to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Dept. later today where he will be formally charged. Access also reached out to a representative for the rapper, but has not yet received comment.
