Vin Diesel In Talks To Join Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy

Will Vin Diesel play a talking space tree in Marvel’s upcoming “Guardians of the Galaxy”?

The “Fast and Furious” star has teased his fans yet again about joining the Marvel Universe by posting a photo on his Facebook page of “Guardians” character Groot – an alien that resembles a massive walking tree with the ability to control plant life, regenerate and change his mass at will.

At one point over the weekend, the actor made the photo of the Marvel character his Facebook cover pic, but then removed it from his profile.

According to Deadline, the actor is currently in talks to join the project, which also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Glenn Close, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly and Benicio Del Toro.

In June, the actor posted on Facebook, “Marvel has requested a meeting… no idea what for… haha, you probably know better than me.”

In the comic books and his appearances in various Marvel cartoons, Groot only says three words, “I am Groot.” No word if Vin is cast, if the character’s three word vocabulary will remain in place.

The James Gunn-directed movie tells the story of Peter Quill – also known as Star-Lord (played by Pratt) – a pilot who ends up in space with a rag tag group of outlaws that includes: Drax the Destroyer (a human resurrected as a warrior, bent on killing Thanos), Groot, Gamora (the last living member of her species, who once was Thanos’ assassin) and Rocket Raccoon (a genetically engineered critter with a love of explosives and weapons).

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is slated to blast into theaters on August 1, 2014.
