Virginia Massacre Forces Popular Soap To Rethink Hostage Plot Line

LOS ANGELES (April 19, 2007) — The tragedy on the campus of Virginia Tech sent shockwaves rippling through the nation, and Hollywood is no different. As a result, one popular daytime show is being forced to examine a major plot line.

Access Hollywood has learned the popular daytime soap “One Life to Live” is re-evaluating a May sweeps storyline involving a hostage situation on a high school campus.

In the May 1 issue of Soap Opera Digest, “OLTL” writer Dena Higley dropped some hints as to what the plot involves.

“We’re starting off May with a very realistic high-school situation that’s very dire and serious and based on a true story,” Higley told Soap Opera Digest.

In an exclusive statement to Access Hollywood, a rep for ABC said they are taking a closer look at the footage to see if it’s appropriate to air given the current circumstances.

“The upcoming ‘One Life to Live’ high school scenes were taped in March. In light of this week’s tragic events, we are looking very closely at our storyline and making every effort to deal with this in the most sensitive way possible,” the statement said.

The plot would focus on the Llanview teen scene which includes Starr, Cole, Brintey, Langston and Henry, played by Jonathan Groff (pictured above).
