Members of “The Walking Dead” cast are lending their help to a new Kickstarter campaign from Gale Anne Hurd and Valerie Red-Horse.

“TWD” Executive Producer Hurd is working with Red-Horse on crafting a documentary on Wilma Mankiller, the first female Chief of the Cherokee Nation. The pair want to get the film made and her story told, and they have turned to the public via Kickstarter for help in financing the project.

Danai Gurira (Michonne), Scott Wilson (Hershel) and Steven Yeun (Glenn) all appear in the Kickstarter video for the documentary. Other stars from the show including Melissa McBride (Carol) and Norman Reedus (Daryl) are lending support in other ways.

Kickstarter backers often are offered incentives for backing projects, but the “TWD” gang have come up with some of the most creative we’ve seen in a while. In a twist likely inspired by last week’s “The Walking Dead,” a $3,000 backer can have “Cookies with Carol,” and chow down on sweet treats with Melissa. (It seems unlikely Jessie’s son, Sam, will be interested in that one.)

A customized voicemail greeting from Norman is an option, as is hitting the shooting range with Michael Rooker (Merle).

So far, nearly $38K of the filmmakers’ goal of $150K has been raised.

The documentarians are hoping to share the leader’s story with authentic storytelling, and that is why they’ve turned to Kickstarter, Hurd said in a statement.

“Since Valerie and I first learned of Wilma Mankiller, we have been absolutely consumed by the desire to bring her story to life,” Gale said in a statement. “As producers, we have the skills necessary to develop the project from conception to screen. However, we come to Kickstarter not only as producers, but as a people who love Wilma’s story and want it to be told as authentically and passionately as possible. It is the nature of this industry that every project is molded and shaped by the demands of those who finance the film. If the financiers share your passion for the project and are dedicated to the same singular vision, this ensures the final film will retain its sense of honesty and artistic integrity. That’s why we have come to Kickstarter, to find the community of people who will fall in love with Wilma’s story, as we have, and who will be able to nurture this project into becoming something as inspiring as Wilma herself.”
