‘Wanted 2’ & ‘Wicked’ On Track With New Uni Platt Pact

Producer Marc Platt, the man behind “Wanted,” and Universal’s investment in the stage production of “Wicked” will stay at Universal Pictures through 2012, Variety reported.

Platt is now ushering in plans for “Wanted 2” alongside director Tim Bekmambetov, writers Michael Brandt & Derek Haas and — hopefully — James McAvoy.

“Wanted” has grossed over $192.6 million worldwide since its release last month.

“The writers are at work already, and those creative discussions are taking place,” Platt told Variety.

Platt is also helping to bring to the big screen a new version of 1973’s “Jesus Christ Superstar.”

“Wicked,” the super-successful theatrical production, which he encouraged Universal to invest in, is also in the formative steps of development under Platt, although the entire team behind the musical is waiting until the stage version reaches its pinnacle.

One reason Universal chose to re-up Platt’s contract, according to Universal Production President Donna Langley, is because of his diverse interests.

“Marc has strong commercial tastes, but so eclectic that you can’t put him in a box or category,” Langley told Variety.

Universal is a sister company of Access Hollywood, both owned by NBC Universal.
