Wayne Brady, Tracie Thoms & More Join Neil Patrick Harris’ ‘Rent’

Neil Patrick Harris is assembling an all-star cast for his musical directorial debut.

According to Broadway World, a number of stars of stage and screen will join the Hollywood Bowl’s early August three-night production of “Rent,” which has already cast Vanessa Hudgens in the role of Mimi.

Amongst the stars who will join – Wayne Brady (“The Wayne Brady Show,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”) Aaron Tveit (“Howl,” “Ugly Betty,” Broadway’s “Next To Normal”), Skylar Astin (Broadway’s “Spring Awakening”), Collins Pennie (“Fame,” “Stomp The Yard 2: Homecoming”) and three previous “Rent” performers, Tracie Thoms (“Cold Case,” Joanne in the 2005 movie version), Telly Leung and Gwen Stewart, the original Broadway vocalist of “Seasons of Love.”

“So far, I’m thrilled with the cast,” Neil told the site. “With this gang, I’m hoping to provide an eclectic mix of experienced RENT performers, amazing new talent, and recognizable faces in unexpected roles.”

The summer production will run for only three performances at the Bowl, on August 6, 7 and 8.

Neil is currently filming “The Smurfs” in NYC.
