Where Was Celine Dion At Vancouver Olympics Opening Ceremony?

Celine Dion is arguably the most famous Canadian musician of all. So why didn’t she appear during one of the most significant cultural events in her country’s history — the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics games — alongside fellow famous Canadian musicians including Sarah MacLachlan, Nelly Furtado, Michael Buble and k.d. lang?

A rep for Celine tells Access exclusively that her absence indeed did have something to do with her fertility attempts – but it’s not what several online reports have speculated.

Celine never planned on participating in the Opening Ceremony.

However, her rep says that she was indeed approached several times beginning a couple of years ago. But she always said, ‘No,’ because she thought she’d either be pregnant or be mom to a newborn.

Coincidentally, Celine was just in New York last week for fertility treatments.

Last week, Celine announced that she would launch a new three-year residence at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, beginning in Las Vegas, March 15, 2011.

And the 2011 start date allows Celine the chance to try for motherhood once more.

The star has one child, son Rene-Charles, now 9. In December, Celine about her struggle to have a sibling for her son.

“We are trying to have a second child and we hope to be blessed again as parents,” she said at the time. “We were [pregnant in August]. It was positive…[but] it was not staying. That is why we are trying again.”
