Why Did Prince William & The Queen Miss The Olympics Closing Ceremony?

Prince Harry and Duchess Catherine cheered on a host of British pop and rock stars at the 2012 Olympics Closing Ceremonies on Sunday night in London, but notably absent were Prince William and The Queen.

On Monday, the Palace revealed that the Queen wasn’t present because she had no role at the event, unlike the opening ceremonies, which she famously took part, not only to welcome the games to her country, but in a James Bond-inspired stunt.

While not in attendance, the Queen reportedly watched the ceremony from Balmoral, with her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, The Telegraph reported.

As for Prince William, he was absent as he had work back in North Wales, where he is stationed as a search and rescue helicopter pilot for the Royal Air Force.

Without his grandmother or brother in attendance, Prince Harry took center stage from the stands, enjoying performances from The Who, George Michael and the Spice Girls alongside his sister-in-law, Kate.
