Why Tom Cruise Picked Emily Blunt For ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’

Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are paired up in Doug Liman’s upcoming “Edge of Tomorrow,” thanks to Tom!

The actor revealed to Access Hollywood that he rallied hard to get Emily as his co-star.

“I saw her work very early on and her work as an actress, and I just really admired [her],” Tom told Access’ Tim Vincent at the “Edge of Tomorrow” junket in London on Monday. “She’s got great taste, as her choices in terms of within scenes, tremendous power on screen.”

Tom said he’s been impressed by British actress for a while.

“Right from the very beginning, [I knew] this woman can really act, and the versatility of her ability is incredible – from comedy to drama and also romance,” he said. “She’s a great leading lady but a character actor. So I’ve been watching her for a long time.”

Tom was so impressed, he chatted with the film’s director about casting Emily.

“We were looking for someone and immediately [director] Doug [Liman] and I talked, and we just wanted Blunt to play this,” he said. “I thought what the potential of this character can be, and that dynamic, you know, and I met her.”

And Emily felt the same about working with Tom and Doug.

“I met Doug and him for the first time and it was great,” she said. “I felt immediately brought into the creative process and they very much wanted to build the character with me.”

“Edge of Tomorrow” hits theaters on June 6.
