Will Spelling & McDermott Razzle Dazzle In “Chicago”?

Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott may be the latest husband-and-wife team to co-star in the Broadway production of “Chicago.”

As reported today by the NY Post’s Page Six, Tori and Dean are “currently in talks” to take on starring roles in the long-running smash hit musical, according to Spelling’s rep.

The “Chicago” producers tell Access Hollywood that everything is, “very preliminary, nothing confirmed, (and it) would be for mid-2008.”

Spelling’s rep confirmed to People that an offer had been made to the couple, but said they had not committed to it. The pair went to see the show while in town for New York Fashion Week, according to People’s report.

Since its debut in 1996, the latest run of “Chicago” has become the longest-running revival on Broadway, thrilling audiences with its barrage of show-stopping song and dance numbers. The story of “celebrity criminals” in the 1920’s features choreography inspired by the legendary Bob Fosse.

McDermott would be assumed to take on the leading male role of crooked lawyer Billy Flynn, while Spelling could play either of the show’s murderous sirens, Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly.

Married couple Lisa Rinna and Harry Hamlin have previously co-starred in the Broadway production, and so have Amy Spanger and Michael C. Hall. Other celebs to make their mark include Brooke Shields, Usher, and Melanie Griffith.

The 2002 movie adaptation starring Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta Jones and Richard Gere went on to win the Oscar for Best Picture.

Spelling and McDermott, married since May 2006, star together in the Oxygen reality series, “Tori & Dean: Inn Love.” They welcomed a baby boy named Liam Aaron McDermott on March 13.
