William Shatner Slams Gossip & Tabloids: ‘It’s Terrible’

Don’t expect to find TV and film legend William Shatner perusing the magazines in the supermarket checkout aisle – the actor can’t stand the world of celebrity gossip!

“Tabloid stuff just offends,” William, who directed a documentary about “Star Trek’s” leading men and women, “The Captains,” told Billy Bush and Kit Hoover on Wednesday’s Access Hollywood Live.

“I can’t stand the gossip of celebrities’ lives, all the time! Every minute… you were talking about Angelina and Brad… it is a jail that they’re in!” he said, referring to Matt Damon’s recent comments pairing the big screen couple to prisoners.

“Its so bad to see these people’s lives so minutely examined,” he continued. “Look at what its come to in England, the hacking into the phone system. It has risen to that point, where interest in people’s lives [leads people] to break the law… It’s terrible.”

William, like News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch, has also had a run-in with pie to the face.

“Those things happen,” he told Billy and Kit. “People get crazy and do strange things that you can’t fathom.”

“The Captains” premieres on EPIX on July 22 at 8 PM.
