Women In Hollywood Honored With Icon Awards

BEVERLY HILLS (September 21, 2006) — Annette Bening, Cate Blanchett, Sofia Coppola and Sally Field received Premiere magazine’s Icon Award for their achievements in the entertainment industry at its 13th annual Women in Hollywood event.

Evan Rachel Wood was given the Spotlight Award for Emerging Talent at the dinner ceremony Wednesday at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

“I look up to all these women so much and I’ve been watching them since I can remember,” the 19-year-old actress told AP Television News. “They’re why I do what I do, so I’m just very humble.”

Wood’s screen credits include “Thirteen,” “The Missing” and “Running With Scissors,” which is set for release next month. Bening also stars in the film, based on the book by Augusten Burroughs.

Blanchett, who won a best supporting actress Oscar for “The Aviator,” said she was “overwhelmed. … Strangely more so than any award ceremony because I think the room is full of such an incredible bunch of women.”

Previous honorees include Jodie Foster, Laura Ziskin, Sherry Lansing, Meryl Streep, Michelle Pfeiffer and Susan Sarandon.
