Zac Efron Getting Sober After ‘Rough Year’

Zac Efron’s life for the past year has been filled with career highs and personal struggles, but he’s glad he can be open about what he’s overcome.

In a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, the 26-year-old opened about his battle with addiction. And on Monday’s “Today” show, the actor spoke about the relief of putting it out there.

“Actually, it was a weight off my chest. It was great. It was a fantastic time. It was a rough year,” he said of his decision to speak openly about his addiction struggles.

The actor, who is starring in “Neighbors” with Seth Rogen and Dave Franco, is glad to be back at work.

“It’s kind of funny — ‘Neighbors’ is such a great icing on the cake for all of this. I was able to kind of channel all of that and put it back into this movie. I feel great. I feel really blessed to be here working with this group of guys. I couldn’t be better right now. I’m really excited.”

In his interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Zac revealed that he’s attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and is working with a therapist.

“I think it’s changed my life. I’m much more comfortable in my own skin. Things are so much easier now,” he told THR last month. “Without those moments where you feel like your lowest, it’s impossible to appreciate the high ones, but I sit here in front of you today much happier and healthier than I’ve probably ever been.”
