Zendaya Voices Concern Over ‘Quite Manipulated’ Magazine Photos

Zendaya is all about keeping it real.

The actress has called out Modeliste for digitally trimming her already-slender
figure in a recent photo spread.

In an Instagram post on Tuesday, the “Dancing with the Stars”
runner-up said the changes caught her off guard and could also perpetuate the
negative body image issues affecting many of her fans and peers.

“Had a new shoot come out today and was shocked when I found my 19
year old hips and torso quite manipulated,” Zendaya wrote, captioning a side-by-side
comparison snap of the image in question.

In addition to color modifications, the mag’s version shows Zendaya
sporting a noticeably slimmer frame than in the original shot.

“These are the things that make women self conscious, that create
the unrealistic ideals of beauty that we have. Anyone who knows who I am knows
I stand for honest and pure self love,” she continued. “So I took it
upon myself to release the real pic (right side) and I love it.”

Her words didn’t go unnoticed. The publication has since taken down the
photos from its website, a gesture Zendaya found shout-out worthy.

“Thank you @modelistemagazine for pulling down the images and fixing
this retouch issue,” she added.

Zendaya’s past efforts to redefine beauty standards have been rewarded,
as well.
