Zendaya’s Dancing With The Stars Blog: Dedicating Her Dance To Her Grandma

In her latest post for AccessHollywood.com, Zendaya talks about her latest “Dancing with the Stars” routine and its special dedication to her grandma…

Hi Access Hollywood readers and all my ZSwaggers!

Last night was prom night at DWTS and since I’m only 16 I’ve never been to prom!

Val and I decided to do something special and dedicate the dance to my grandma who was recently diagnosed with cancer. We wanted to recreate some moments from her prom, and we chose the song “Que Sera Sera,” which means “whatever will be will be.”

The message has so much meaning behind it. Right now we’re living in the moment and thinking positive. We are all here to support her. My grandma was really excited when I told her I was dedicating this dance to her. She was taken aback by it, but I think dedicating a dance is the least I can do for her. Knowing she was in the audience last night made me more excited to go out there and perform, but it also added a lot of pressure. I wanted to make sure it was perfect.

But then again, it’s my Grandma and she’s here for me and loves me no matter what and that’s a beautiful thing. I feel like she enjoyed herself and had a good time and that’s all that matters.

My “Shake It Up” parents, Carla Renata and Phil Morris, were in the audience last night along with my costars and friends Adam Irigoyen and Caroline Sunshine. It meant so much to me that they were all there. I have such a supportive group of people around me!

This week was a little more difficult for me picking up the steps. We danced the Viennese Waltz and obviously it was a lot slower than last week’s jive. There was definitely more room for SPICE and PIZZAZ last week because the dance was a lot faster and looser! I find that faster dances come easier to me.

This week’s dance was very detailed…slow and smooth. It was tough for me!

Overall I am proud of our performance and I am so happy I got to share this with my Grandma.
