Zooey Deschanel: How I’ll Spend My ‘Summer’ Vacation

Zooey Deschanel stars in “(500) Days Of Summer,” due in theaters this Friday, and judging by her interview in the August issue of Self magazine, the actress will have plenty to do this season.

She made a list for the publication of her favorite summertime activities, which range from baking vegan chocolate to running around in the sprinklers.

“You can’t force fun, but you can set up situations where fun will happen to you,” Zooey told the mag.

Among her suggestions?

“Sprawl in the grass for a little bit. My suggestion is to put on an all-green outfit and roll down a hill,” she said. “Read a mystery novel in a hammock. I really wish I had a hammock – I am on a five-year hammock plan, so hopefully as I enter my 30s I can finally achieve that goal.”

Zooey also advised people to try on hats – and convince their friends to, too.

“Encourage the men around you to wear a boater hat,” she said. “Not everybody’s a hat person, but it can’t hurt to try.”

And the music-minded star, who spends her time off-screen fronting the band She & Him, also urged people to get outside to see some live performances.

“I love Brian Wilson, so seeing him last summer at the Hollywood Bowl, which is such a classic venue, is a great memory,” she said.

But whatever their plans, Zooey noted that summer enthusiasts should be careful.

“The last time I [ran in the sprinklers], my sister hit me with the garden hose and knocked me clean out,” she warned.
