5 Tips For Fab Feet!

GLAM SLAM

Seeing the stars in their glam high heels at the Oscars was the perfect inspiration to get ready for sandal season and luckily for me, the weather in Los Angeles will be in the 80’s this weekend!

Time to break out the new shoes!

If your feet have been in hibernation thanks to all your boots and closed toe shoes, Foot Surgeon and Author of “Feet Naturally” Dr. Maasi J. Smith is here with tips to get them in sandal shape STAT!

1. If your feet or ankles tend to swell, eat watermelon. This fruit serves as a natural diuretic, helping to rid the body of fluid.

2. If foot odor is a problem for you, consider soaking your feet several times a week in a vinegar bath. Apple cider or white vinegar will do. Mix about a 1/2 cup per 1/2 gallon of water. Soak for about 10 minutes.

3. If calluses are a problem for you, try using aspirin and lemon juice to soften them up a bit! Simply combine 4 or 5 crushed aspirins with a 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice. Put the mixture on the sole of your feet, cover in plastic wrap, throw on a pair of socks and leave on overnight. In the morning, simply rinse the mixture off and then use a pumice stone to scrub off the dead skin. Expect super soft feet in no time!

(*Aspirin and lemon callus-care requires you to use a pumice stone in the morning, diabetics must be careful as some have reduced feeling in their feet and may inadvertently be too aggressive removing the skin.)

If you are prepping your feet at home and are looking for that “spa like” effect, do NOT forget to moisturize your feet before you go to bed because while we sleep, the cells making up our skin are hard at work trying to repair all the damage that has been accumulated during the whole day overnight. Soap & Glory Heel Genius ($16), renovates rough feet in a single overnight session, doubles as a foot cream, and will even out the roughest dry skin.

4. If your skin tends to be dry, reach for Jojoba Oil, Almond Oil or Shea Butter. These products are natural moisturizers, that don’t feel greasy and work wonders keeping everything supple!

5. Put on the Sunscreen! It’s not just for the face! Sadly, Skin cancer of the foot is prevalent. So, be sure to protect your feet by applying on sun blocker all over the feet, under toenails, etc. Waterproof or water-resistant Sunscreen with an SPF of 50 will do you. I would recommend using, Sun Bum SPF 50 Continuous Spray Sunscreen ($15.99) it’s easy to use, and the ultra sheer/dry touch continuous spray formula will protect your skin from harmful UVA/UVB rays while enriching your skin with Vitamin E.
