Amy Winehouse Arrested In London

LONDON, England (December 18, 2007) – Grammy nominee Amy Winehouse has been arrested in London.

“A 24-year-old woman has been arrested by appointment at an East London Police station. She is currently in custody,” a spokesperson from Scotland Yard told NBC news. “The arrest is in connection with an investigation into perverting the course of justice.”

“I can confirm that she did go in voluntarily to a London police station to be interviewed (pre-arranged date/time) and was placed under arrest, as is common practice in the UK, before being questioned,” Amy’s rep told Access Hollywood.

Winehouse’s husband, Blake Fielder-Civil has been in custody for weeks on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice over an assault case.

Fielder-Civil and Michael Brown were previously accused of assaulting James King.

As a result of the alleged assault, King reportedly needed metal plates put in his face.

A trial date for the men is expected in June.

“It is not an unexpected move,” Britain’s crime correspondent Martin Brunt was quoted saying about Amy’s arrest.

“Her husband has been charged with grievous bodily harm against a pub landlord. He was then further charged with perverting the course of justice.

“It had been speculated that police might have an interest in any allegation about his wife’s potential involvement,” Brunt said.

Winehouse cancelled a host of UK tour dates in November, not long after her husband’s arrest.
