Anthony Hopkins Joins ‘Thor’ As King Of The Gods

“Thor” has a dad.

Anthony Hopkins will take on the role of Odin, the Norse lord of the mystical realm of Asgard and the father of the title hero, according to Variety.

The one-eyed Odin also serves as father to the prankster god Loki, Thor’s archenemy, who will be played by Tom Hiddelston.

“Star Trek” actor Chris Hemsworth is set to hoist Thor’s hammer, while Natalie Portman has been cast as his love interest, Jane Foster.

Kenneth Branagh will direct the film, which is slated for release on May 20, 2011, setting the stage for Marvel’s “The First Avenger: Captain America,” due later in summer 2011, and 2012’s much-anticipated “Avengers” movie, which is expected to join Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and the Hulk for the first time together on screen.
